Welcome

Hi there! I'm Rob, a lifelong gamer with a passion for all things game design and development. Ever since I was 17, I knew I wanted to work in the games industry - it's where my creativity, curiosity, and love of interactive storytelling come together. My interest really took off during the final year of my undergraduate degree, when I dove into indie development and discovered how exciting and rewarding it can be to bring ideas to life from scratch. Since then, I've continued making games and concepts in my own time, always pushing myself to learn new tools, refine my skills, and experiment with different styles of gameplay.

Pursuing both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees has deepened not only my technical abilities but also my appreciation for the industry as a whole. I've come to understand just how much work goes into creating modern games - everything from game mechanics to level design, balance, and polish. It's made me more analytical, and I love dissecting what makes certain games click with players. Whether it's a clever mechanic, a well designed difficulty curve, or a story that sticks with the player, I'm fascinated by what makes a game truly enjoyable and memorable.

I also have a strong connection to the games I grew up with. There's something special about revisiting the classics—those games that defined entire childhoods. It's a shame that many of them aren't easily accessible anymore, and I'd love to help bring them back to life for fans who crave that nostalgic experience. At the same time, there's so much opportunity to reimagine those titles using today's technology, adding fresh layers of depth while staying true to the original spirit.

Other Interests

Ice Hockey

Game development isn't my only passion. While at university, I joined the Ice Hockey society just out of curiosity - and ended up completely hooked. From day one, I threw myself into improving my skating and stick-handling skills, with the goal of making the 'A' team by my third year. But for me, it wasn't just about the sport - it was about the community too. In my final undergrad year, I was invited to coach the club's newest team, and I kept coaching through my postgrad studies and even after graduation. Since, I have continued to play for several recreational teams. Hockey taught me a lot about discipline, teamwork, and leadership qualities.

Mentoring

Throughout college and university, I often found myself helping peers with coursework or projects. It turns out, I really enjoy mentoring and explaining concepts to others. There's something incredibly satisfying about helping someone understand something new - and in doing so, I always end up deepening my own understanding as well. This love for teaching extended naturally into my coaching experience in hockey and has shaped how I approach teamwork and collaboration in creative projects.

Pixel Art

One of the challenges I ran into early on when making games was art - I just didn't have a background in it. But rather than seeing it as a limitation, I took it as a creative opportunity. I've always admired pixel art - especially the kind you see shared on Reddit, where beautifully detailed scenes are created from such a basic. It's amazing how much expression and depth can be packed into something so deceptively simple. That inspiration led me to start learning pixel art myself.
